Welcome to the ABEC Academy. Our Academy has been launched to provide a permanent and significant improvement to the engineering pipeline in the building controls industry.
The global BEMS market is expected to double in size by 2020 and currently the lack of engineering resource is threatening to destabilise this growth. Demand for qualified engineers continues to outstrip supply, putting an inflationary pressure on cost, as well as leading to a reduction in the quality of engineering resource as people are fastracked to site without the necessary training.
Our clients receive many benefits from the scheme, most notably a security over the future of quality engineering resource from ABEC.
In all of the schemes entrants will rotate through all of our departments, ensuring they have a true 360 degree view of our business and our industry. Rotations include:
- Control panel manufacturing
- Electrical installation
- HVAC application training
- BEMS hardware and product training
- Sales and estimating
- Project management
- Software engineering
The Academy has three training schemes:
1 Year Scheme for Graduates
A 1 year scheme for University graduates that provides a springboard into this exciting and rewarding industry.
The rigorous 12 month programme delivers a progressive combination of on and off site training with real time experience on live projects under the continuous watchful eye of the academy staff.
On successful completion of the 12 month programme, the graduates move into full time employment in the role of a Support or Commissioning Engineer. In the first year of employment as an engineer the graduates are closely mentored by the Academy Training Manager to ensure the skills learned in their training period are being used to the full onsite.
University graduates with a minimum of a 2:2 in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or an IT related degree are welcome to apply.
Starting salaries of £22-25,000 plus a company vehicle are on offer to successful applicants.
2 Year Scheme for Diploma Holders and Career Transition Applicants
The 2 year scheme is open to holders of a diploma in Building Services, mechanical or electrical engineering. The scheme is also open to applicants who are electrically or mechanically qualified and would like to train as a controls engineer.
The 2 year scheme provides both on and off site training and graduates of the scheme are guaranteed a permanent role as either a Support or Commissioning Engineer on completion of their training.
Diploma holders with a minimum of a Merit in Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical engineering are welcome to apply. We also encourage applications from experienced qualifies electricians and mechanically qualified engineers.
Starting salaries of £20-23,000 plus a company vehicle are on offer to successful applicants.
4 Year Scheme for School Leavers
This 4 year scheme is open to school leavers with A Levels and a demonstrable interest in engineering.
Each apprentice will experience a blend of part time occupational training and experience, coupled with part time education to achieve a HNC in either Building Services Engineering, or Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
On successful completion of the 4 year programme, apprentices graduate into a transitional year, where they gain full time employment in the role of a support or commissioning engineer. The transition year is designed to provide academy graduates continued support and mentoring as they make the change to a fully fledged engineering role within the business.
Applications from school leavers with a minimum of two A levels (Grade E and above) will be considered.
Starting salaries of £15-17,000 plus a company vehicle are on offer to successful applicants.
